I created a montage of images that portray my alter ego onto cardboard. I then drew a fashion illustration of three women and mounted them on top. I covered my entire face with white face paint and used blue paint on my lips and around my eye. I found Magrittes work fascinating and I loved the mystery that surrounds his paintings. My favourite painting was titled ‘The Menaced Assassin, 1927’ that is pictured above. The main subject of the painting, a blood smeared woman, is seen lying on a couch. If you look closely, the woman has been beheaded as her head is resting on her shoulder. As you look more closely at the painting I realised it tells many possible stories. It is very much like a pulp fiction novel, in which a crime has taken place, in this case a murder. It could aslo be seen as we are part of the crime and we are witnesses watching, like the men on the balcony. Furthermore, the assassin, a well-dressed man, stands ready to leave and is delayed by music from the gramaphone and two armed men with a bat and net wait to capture him. Inside Dali’s museum there is an entire room that is designed to look just like the painting when viewed from a certain point. The eyes are paintings on the wall, the nose is a fireplace and the mouth is one of Dali’s famous lip couches.
